14 Oct 1919 Leksand, Sweden -Deceased Brita Sjoman began her weaving career teaching in her home country of Sweden. She then went on to teach weaving at Penland School, Cleveland Institute of Art & Honolulu Academy of Art before settling in Vail, CO, where she opened a textile gallery. Her work is in the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art. Education: Pupil then instructor at the Johanna Brunsson's Weaving School in Stockholm, Sweden Career: 1959 teaching advanced textile techniques at the Penland School of Handicrafts. Early 1960's living in Cleveland and exhibiting regularly at the May Show, Cleveland Museum of Art. Head of Textiles Department at the Cleveland Institute of Art. 1963 taught summer class at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Later settled in Vail, Colorado and opened a textile gallery and taught classes.
