Helen Worrall was born in Chesterhill, Ohio. After graduating with a degree in art education from Ohio University in 1938, she earned a diploma from the Central Academy of Art in Cincinnati in 1946. She then attended Cranbrook Academy of Art and earned a master’s degree in metalsmithing. She was a perennial student and never stopped learning.
Her enamels gained national recognition after she was juried into the 1956 Syracuse Ceramic National, which toured several venues nationwide. In total, she participated in ninety-four exhibitions. She was a versatile enamellist who was comfortable working with a variety of techniques. Her work is recognized primarily for its impeccable attention to detail and beautiful finish. Examples are in the collections of the Arrowmont School of Crafts, Gatlinburg, Tennessee; the Art Museum of Texas Tech University; Miami University; and the Wichita Center for the Arts.
She was also a teacher whose passion for teaching equaled her love of creating. She devoted a majority of her career to teaching at high schools (for over 26 years); at Miami University (1969–81); and at other institutions, including Cincinnati Art Museum and Arrowmont School of Crafts. She also served as ODC president for 1966.
