Jeep coat with stenciled rank insignia as well as a stenciled Thunderbird insignia on left shoulder. This coat was issued to J.D. Morrison (Marlow, Oklahoma) of the 45th Infantry Military Police Company

Context

The Jeep Coat, also known as the “Coat, Mackinaw, OD”, was first issued in 1938 during World War II. It was intended for use by troops who didn’t engage in much movement, such as drivers. The Jeep Coat had a water-resistant cotton duck outer shell. Its distinguishing feature was the wool blanket lining, which extended visibly over the shawl collar.
