The Taunton Boys’ Club was organized in 1902 and incorporated in 1905, with the intention of providing boys and young men with activities to minimize their exposure and susceptibility to bad influences on the streets. Early features of the club included the gymnasium, game room, and Summer Camp that was organized in 1908-1909. As the Boys’ Club expanded over the course of the twentieth century, various renovations and additions were made to accommodate the growing membership and needs of the club. For the majority of this time, the Taunton Girls’ Club existed as a separate entity.
The Women’s Auxiliary to the Taunton Boys’ Club was instituted not long after the club’s founding. These women assisted in fundraising, weekend events and activities, and frequently contributed to the Memorial Fund of the Taunton Boys’ Club. Correspondence between members of the Women’s Auxiliary and meeting notes comprise of s significant portion of this series.Archive Details
