Scope and Content

Most of the materials in this box are company accounting information for Drummond printing, with some personal accounting and documents for Manuel J. and Mary Drummond and William Drummond, and assorted photographs of William Drummond during his World War II service in China.

Context

Prior to 1935, Manuel J. Drummond worked for the Davol Printing House on 2 ½ Main St., Taunton, MA as a compositor/typesetter. In 1935, he established Drummond Printing Co. on 56 Cohannet St. in Taunton. Manuel owned and operated thus business until 1969/70, when he transferred ownership of the company to his son, William R. Drummond. However, Manuel continued to work at the family business until his retirement in 1972. There are account transactions for Drummond Printing in the ledgers up until 2008. The Drummonds also owned several properties that they rented out, based on receipts and transactions in Manuel’s personal ledgers, in the late 1940’s and 50’s. Based on the photographs in Box 2, Manuel’s son William Drummond served in the military in Tientsin, China at the end of World War II when Japan conceded to the Allied forces
