Description

"Road accidents and sketching" by Capt WJ Hutchinson, pub, Police Review Publishing Co, 6th edition 1947

Use

To instruct police officers in how to visually record the scene of a road traffic accident

Context

In the past there were far fewer vehicles on the road, resulting in far fewer collisions. As a result those that did occur were usually thoroughly investigated by the police and where necessary court proceedings taken against offending drivers. This booklet was produced to instruct officers in best practice when recording collisions and was written by Captain Hutchinson, the Chief Constable of Brighton Borough Police from 1933 to 1956. Captain Hutchinson was seen as something of an innovator in policing circles and this booklet is probably indicative of that innovation. It was published by the magazine Police Review and would have been marketed at rank and file officers to buy for their own improvement.
