Context

Epaulettes are used to denote the rank of a person in uniform when wearing just a shirt, where that rank would normally be displayed on the shoulders of a tunic. They are usually attached to loops on the shoulders of the shirt. These particular epaulettes are from the Danish nationalPolice and denote the rank of "politiassistent" or constable with seven years service. The presence of an embroidered "button" instead of a real button probably indicates they are relatively modern. They form part of a small collection that was probably formed by a UK police officer during trips abroad. In the past it was common practice for officers top swap uniform insignia with foreign officers.
