For attaching to unattended motor vehicles where an offence has occurred.Context
Labels such as this were used in most police forces for when an officer came upon an unattended motor vehicle and the presence of that vehicle was committing some form of offence. The vehicle may have been in a dangerous condition or otherwise having something wrong with it that constituted an offence. In these circumstances the officer would note all of the evidence and leave a label on the vehicle, instructing the owner/or driver to attend the nearest police station. Upon attending that person would be dealt with for the offence either by the officer completing the label or another, and all of their relevant documents checked.
This label was used by East Sussex Constabulary and probably dates from the 1960s. Similar labels were used by police forces throughout Sussex and later by Sussex Constabulary and Sussex Police, well into the 1990s.
