Context

The purpose of these signs is unknown at this time but they would appear to date from 1967 when East Sussex Constabulary changed its name to East Sussex Police. The following year the Force was amalgamated into Sussex Constabulary. The numbers on these signs exceed 100, so whatever was to be labeled consisted of a large number of items, they are also quite large. It is quite possible that they were something to do with the preparations for the amalgamation and that there was felt a need to label things connected with the East Sussex Force, possibly documentation or uniform which would become obsolete with the formation of the new police force ? Should anybody know exactly what they were used for the museum would love to know.
