Context
Prior to the creation of Sussex Constabulary in 1968, there was not a single police force for the whole of Sussex and instead there were five separate police forces, each with their own insignia.
This particular collection represents an almost complete set of the insignia used across Sussex in 1967 from the five police forces and that used from 1968 in Sussex Constabulary and from 1974 to 1995 in Sussex Police. There are some omissions and two cap badges from before 1952, but the helmet badge and lapel and epaulette insignia selections are complete ones from c1967 and afterwards until 1995.
