Retirement celebrations and presentations have long been a police tradition and c continue to be so. In the past the more senior the officer the more lavish the affair and often theses events were paid for by subscriptions from colleagues.
These items relate to the post retirement dinner and presentation for Superintendent William (Willie) Lodge of Brighton Borough Police, on 4th May 1934 at the Aquarium Restaurant in Brighton. He joined Brighton Police on 30th March 1905 and served until 1st March 1934. During this time he served in all ranks and acted as the chief constable in 1933 between the retirement of Charles Griffin and the appointment of William Hutchinson.
