Context
In 1912 the Judges of the King's Bench were asked by the Home Secretary to compile a set of guidelines for the police regarding the questioning of suspects and the obtaining from them statements, including confessions. This was to prevent valuable evidence being found to be inadmissible in court. These guidelines became known as "Judges Rules" and were subsequently revised in 1918, and re issued in 1934 and 1964. They were replaced in 1984 by Code C of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act Codes of Practice.
This aid memoire was produced by Brighton Borough Police in February 1966 and from its size and folds it appears too have been designed to be carried in an officer's pocket. These cards were personal issue and other examples have officer's warrant numbers written on then (see item 163).
