For an officer to suspend a Burndept BE470 personal radio around their neck.

Context

In the 1970s the two piece Pye Pocketfone radio was replaced as the standard Home Office police personal radio by the Buurndept BE470, which was a one piece transmitter and receiver with thee channels. These radios had a clip to attach to the inside of a tunic but also could be suspended from the neck by a strap, either attached to a harness or from rings attached to the side of the radio. Such a system would be frowned upon today because of the danger of the strap being used to choke an officer. These straps were also used to suspend the later Motorola HT600E personal radios, which replaced the Burndept in the mid 1980s, though in Sussex Police these radios were usually carried on the belt.
