Description
A black and white original photographic print (11.4 cm x 8.6 cm) of a female Brighton Borough Police special constable. Marked on rear in handwritten pencil "Grace McDonald special 1963 - 1966"
Context
The officer shown in this picture is Grace McDonald who served as a special constable in Brighton Borough Police from 1963 to 1966. As was common within the Special Constabulary at the time, she is wearing out of date insignia. The cap badge is a King's Crown Brighton Borough Police lower ranks example, which was replaced by a Queens Crown version after 1953. Other than this photograph, the museum has others of Grace in a quiz completion, as well as items and photographs relating to her future husband William Turner, who was also a special constable.
