A presentation item to a police social clubContext
In the past it was not unusual for retiring officers and staff to give presentation items to either their police station or its social club, normally in the form of sports trophies or items of equipment. In this case C. E Benton, who served as a War Reserve Constable and a Special Constable, and subsequently as the social club barman, presented this shield to the club, presumably on the occasion of his retirement. It details all of the superintendents that he served or worked under. A further inscription states that the wood used to make this item came from the old Worthing Court room built in 1921.
