To enable a police officer to carry an incapacitant spray securely on their utility belt.Context
In 2001 Sussex Police adopted the CAPTOR synthetic pepper spray incapacitant and since then holders such as this have been issued to uniform officers to allow CAPTOR canisters to be carried on a utility belt. These holders consist of two parts, the actual canister holder and a belt loop, the canister holder securely sliding into the belt loop section by means of a slide plastic groove and notch. The top loop with the stud fastening keeps the holder section and the actual canister securely in place, and the lanyard is there should an officer drop the holder whilst using the spray. Though made by the same company, "Peter Jones", that supplied Sussex Police with its first spray holders, this particular one is a more recent version, with some slight differences and is marked with a "www" web address.
