Context

In 1998 Sussex Police adopted a new warrant card holder complete with a version of the Sussex Police all ranks cap badge and a brail strip spelling "Police". This holder replaced the existing plastic card holder and coincided with the introduction of a photo warrant card. The card holder pictured is not the new warrant card holder although it does have an identical printed Sussex Police badge in silver, which on the first version of the new card holders was on one of the inside covers, the other having an enamelled badge. So this holder is either an unissued prototype, or possibly a simplified Identity card holder for civilian Sussex Police staff. It was not of a type known to have been issued to police officers prior to the introduction of the badged warrant card holders. Now days non police uniformed staff such as PCSOs, are issued with the same card holders as police officers, and most other civilian support staff tend to wear ID badges in clear plastic card holders on lanyards.
