Context

After trials of new batons, in 1995 Sussex police adopted the solid PR24 and the extendable PR24 XTS models, made by the US company Monadnock. This particular baton is a different model from Monadnock the 1121 and thought still a side handled baton, it is referred to as a "Control Device". This type of baton was not adopted for general use by Sussex Police but may have been one that was used in the initial trials. It could also have been used for assessment by the Staff Safety Training Unit, who continue to test and evaluate batons to see if they meet the force's requirements. However it if was for evaluation it would have been some time ago as Sussex Police have used straight telescopic batons since 2001
