Description

Photograph. Dedication of monument to first American colony on Puget Sound--the Simmons-Bush-Kindred party, which arrived in 1845. Marker was originally installed on Simmons Road in Tumwater, near present-day Tumwater Historical Park. The marker was later moved to Tumwater Falls Park, where it still stands. Bronze tablet lists all persons in party which came over the Oregon Trail. Large stone base notes that marker was installed according to the wishes of Leopold F. Schmidt.
