Negative, sheet film. 3 x 5 b&w. Men paddling large Native American-style dugout canoe. Wooden docks and buildings in background. WSHS has photos from same series and describes event: "Photograph of two long canoes racing in the Deschutes Estuary, Olympia, WA, Thurston County, on July 4, 1905. According to accompanying narrative, we are looking toward downtown Olympia from the Fourth Avenue Bridge. Two canoes are racing, each one with eleven paddlers. A small steamer is observing the race. In the distance we can see the wooded Capitol Hill and the railroad bridge across the Deschutes Estuary. We can just make out the old Territorial Capitol hidden among the trees, St. Peter's Hospital, Providence Academy, and the steeple of First Congregational Church. A beach is along the bank, with pilings extending into the estuary." See WSHS photo C1949.1276.1... for similar photos.Name/Title
