Black and white photograph of a memorial marker. The marker is a plaque that reads "In memory of Capt. Hendrik
Aupaumut, Revolutionary Soldier, Born 1757-Died 1830. Tablet placed by Appleton chapter, Daughters of the American
Revolution, 1928." The plaque is attached to a larger rock placed on the side of a road.
Written in black ink on the back "Aupaumut was a chief of the Stockbridge Indians. He started the migration of the New
York Indians to Wisconsin by the way of White River, Ind. where they were not allowed to settle, from there to south
Kaukauna. This was about 1822-24. His record is unique in Indian history. Sept 2-1936-O.E. Heller."Collection
