Description

Seven duplicates of a black and white photograph of a man wearing a three piece suit and bow-tie. He has a cowboy style hat and a medal pinned to the lapel of the vest. The medal has an eagle at the top, an American flag in the middle, and a star at the bottom. He has shoulder length curly hair and a moustache and goatee. There are four 5x7" copies and three 8.25x10" copies, none seems to be an original. There is a sheet of copy paper (also copied) that I am assuming belongs to these photos that reads: "The Civil War Scout 1861-1865. Sergt Stephan Wamsley Nicholas, "Steve Nick" A Full Blood Niantic Indian of the Narragansett Tribe. Co. D-1st Wisconsin Cavalry. Mustered in-Sept. 1, 1861. Mustered out-July 19,1865-Army of the Frontier. Wounded and prisoner at Hodges Ferry on the L'Augville River, Ark. Exchanged and joined his Regt which had become merged with the Army of the Cumberland. #74 Reproduction by Baldy Mehner of Fond du Lac from original. Print by Schnell of Chilton. Our Prints by Lorette Erke-5/29/49"
