Three pages of correspondence on a single sheet of paper. The last page (fourth page) is blank and is the only page that doesn't have light blue lines. The letter is addressed "Madison, Wisconsin, Feb. 8th 1865, O.D. Fowler Esq, My Dear Sir." The letter is asking for historical information about Oneida chief, Ag-we-lon-don-gas a.k.a. Peter or -- Peter. I think the writer means Peter Agwrongdougwas or "Good Peter" who was known as a great orator. The letter is signed "I hope you will try to oblige me. Shall feel thankful for it. Very truly yours, Syman C. Draper". There is a PS that makes me think that it might not be "Good Peter" either. It says "P.S. -- Good Peter must not be confused with a very -- Oneida who migrated with his people to Wisconsin rather De-ga-Lou-yo-hu or Peter Somers. They were very different men".Collection
