Description

Black and white photograph of a group of men working on a farm. There is a steam powered machine in the back and a horse drawn wagon full of hay. A large barn looms above the hay stack in the background. There are 23 men in the photograph. The majority are sitting or standing in the forefront. Some are holding hand tools. Two in the front row seem to be play boxing. One man is behind the steam powered machine, and five are on the wagon near the hay stack. The photograph is mounted on a cardboard matte that is discolored, but was once a cream color. Written in black ink on the back "Frank Stage Farm--Calumetville. Front row sitting, left to right: Oscar Fowler, John Hammer, Herb Niles, Ed Ammel, Fred Fuheman. Standing-Left to Right: Hiram Johnson, Long Walt Welch, Harley Johnson, Chas Mechan, Millard Johnsn, Theo Dick, O.G. Fowler. Louis Gasch on Engine. Will Gasch on water tank. James Amel standing on side of Seferator (?). Carl Hammer, with wagon. Louis Manderscherd beside fly wheel of engine." The matte board and photograph are badly discolored. The back of the matte board has scratches and dark stains. The corners are bent, worn or missing and there are two pieces missing on the right edge. The photograph is also badly stained and can be mostly seen in the sky. There is also a scratch mark in the top left corner of the photograph.
