Two sheets of paper with hand written notes in pencil. The first has "37" at the top and begins "The Eastern three quarter of the Brothertown Reservation had never been occupied by the tribe and after receiving their citizenship they began selling the whole tract to German Catholic families, who were hard working, frugal people but who could not understand the ways of their Indian neighbors and rarely associated with them except on business..." The second paragraph talks about the settlement of Calumet. The second page has "41" written at the top and reads "Few of these wanted to be drafted but enlisted as soon as it became convenient for them to do so..." It talks about enlisting from the tribe after Lincoln's call and how 18 of the 80 tribal men who enlisted died.Collection
