Four page correspondence on a single sheet of paper, folded. The pages with writing are all lined with blue lines. The letter starts on page 2 and is addressed "Camp 5th Wis, Warren Station Va, March 27th /65, Mr. Edgar". The letter is signed on the fourth page as "Hastily I am Oscar Johnson, Co. B. 5th Wis Inft., 3rd Brgd, 1st Div, 6th A.C, Washington DC, E. M. Dick, P.S. please find enclosed one of my old acquaintance of accommodation". It talks about the war. The first page is opposite the last page with the signature and it is an entire printed page of "General Sherman and his boys in blue" lyrics or poem lines. There is an eagle with spread wings on top of flags crossed with various weapons beneath it.
BC2010.022.531B is the envelope the letter was in. It has a red 3 cent Washington stamp with "Washington D.C. March 29" postal stamp. The envelope is addressed to "E.M. Dick, Esq, Brothertown, Calumet Co, Wisconsin". The envelope was opened along the left edge.Collection
