Three page correspondence on a single sheet of paper folded in half (fourth page, opposite first page, is blank). The letter is written in a black ink and addressed "Camp 5th Wis Batt, Winchester, Va. Oct 6th / 1864. Dear Sir" and is signed on the third page "Oscar Johnson, Co B 5th Wis. 3rd Brigade, 1st Div, 6th Corps, Washington DC, Mr. EM Dick, Brothertown, Wis. PS Excuse haste and -- --". Difficult to read for content.
BC2010.022.515B is the envelope the letter was sent in. It is orange in color with a red 3 cent Washington stamp and "Martinsburgh, W.Va. Oct 10" postal stamp on the left side. It is addressed to "Mr. Edgar M. Dick, Brothertown, Calumet Co. Wis". There is a bullseye stamp over the 3 cent stamp. Letter was torn out of the right side of the envelope.Collection
