Single page, typed correspondence (copy) that is addressed "Stockbridge, May 29, 1849, Mr. Charles A. Grignon, Interpreter". Requesting Grignon to go to the Fox River and investigate the encroachment of white settlers on Menominee lands. They are trying to plough and cultivate the land which is causing issues. It asks him to "endeavor to restrain them [the Menominee] from committing deprecations on the White population and inform them that this agency will protect them in the premises and that notice of the trespass has been forwarded to Washington for advice and assistance." It is signed "Very respectfully, Your Obt. Serv., Wm. W. Breed" which is crossed out and written "Bruce" over it.Collection
