He doesn’t remember his grandmothers. His father went to school until the 5th grade and he never learned the Oneida language. His mother went to school until the 8th grade. She seemed to be a little smarter than his father was. He did a lot of hunting and fishing with his dad. They belonged to the Holy Apostle’s Church. They also use to go fox hunting in the fall time. When his mother was around 50 years old she joined the Oneida Indian Singers. He used to go to school at the Oneida Mission School. He then went into the air force. He learned to be a mechanic on the air planes. He was there for 4 years. He worked for 22 years with the railroad. He married Mary Jane Green and they had 3 children together. They now have 9 grandchildren. Mary Jane had a son before her and Allen got married. His wife worked for Oneida teaching the language. She spoke it very fluently. Allen retired in 1986 from the railroad and tried selling insurance for a while. Also he went to school for accounting and did some taxes for about 4 years for the Oneida people. Then he quit and went on to something else. He had a sheltered life he claims. He is proud of the people that started up the gaming. It’s taken off and there are a lot of jobs now. He hopes the youth today will stay in school and get their education. They need it now a days in order to get a decent paying job says Allen.Recording Type
