Powless, Angeline Margaret (Skenandore) Born 09/12/1922 Parents: Elias Skenandore & Louise (Skenandore) She got married to Purcell Richard Powless in 1947 for 57 years, they have 8 children. She does not know where about in Oneida she was born. Her parents were Eli and Louise (Skenandore) Skenandore. They had 13 children. She attended school at Tomah, Elm Hill, Keshena and some other schools she cannot remember. The only place she remembers living in is the place across from William and Angeline Metoxen. Her mother used to make some kind of tea or medicine with herb, roots, and leafs. She doesn’t remember what year her parents died in, because she always was gone away to school. Her grandparents were Dixon and Jane Skenandore. She doesn’t know her other grandparents. They lived wherever her husband worked Chicago, Milwaukee, Oneida and some other cities and towns. Her husband was an Iron Worker, and he used to do odd jobs. Her husband was the tribal Chairmen for 24 years. She works in Dry Cleaners and a bartender until she got married. Then she was a homemaker. She never had any of the holidays at home when she was young. Now she has Christmas with her children and other family members. When she was 4 years old, she used to go Hoyoning with her mother on New Years Day. She went as far as the 10th grade in high school. Then she went to work. Her father was a cement finisher on the roads. She has about 30 grandchildren and 7 or 8 great grandchildren. She makes corn soup. Her and her parents spoke the Oneida language, but she lost it when she went to school. Her father went to Carlisle Boarding School. Her mother ent to the Oneida Mission School. Her advice to the youth is to get a good education.Recording Type
