Charles, Arthur “Art” Nelson Born 04/11/1939 Parents: Verona Charles (Moore) and Julis Charles Maternal Grandmother: Minnie Moore He doesn’t remember to much about his grandparents on his father’s side. His grandmother on his mother’s side use to be a cook at the Norbert Hill Center. His father use to cut brush and worked on construction. And he went away to school and went until the 8th grade. His father use to play baseball and played every position except for pitcher. He lived on Seminary Road with his grandmother Minnie. His mother went to school up until the 8th grade and she never worked outside of home. His parents always had a big garden. They did most of their shopping at Morgan’s Store and Schroder’s Market in Oneida. He went to school at Oneida Mission. They all went to church at Holy Apostle’s Church. Arthur would pick beans and pick cherries. He did a lot of fishing at Pamperin Park but it was cleaner then it is now. He graduated from Seymour High School. He went to Milwaukee to work. He worked in landscaping for 2 years then went into the service in January 1962. He went to different countries and got out in January 1964. He got married on June 14, 1964 to Leona Reed. He worked at Strid Grain and then at Packerland Packing. He started working for the tribe in 1979. He worked at the civic center for 2 years then got laid off. He then went to work at Norbert Hill as custodial and has been there since. He has 6 children, over 20 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He likes to go to stock car races and likes to draw. When he was younger his family never really brought up the New York Claim. He likes to mess around with older cars and trucks.Recording Type
