Description

Cornelius, Benjamin "Ben" Ralph Born 5/24/43 Parents: Lillian (Wheelock) Cornelius and Anderson William Cornelius Maternal Grandparent: Mason Wheelock His parents lived in a little log house before he was born but they lost the house because of back taxes. They bought land on County Trunk H and built a house there. His father worked at Larson’s. He’d have some work but couldn’t find enough work to keep him going. Both his parents spoke the Oneida language to one another but would only speak English to the kids. They had running water and electricity when he was around 9 or 10 years old. His parents never really said where or how far they went to school. They did all their shopping in DePere. Every meal they had they would have boiled potatoes. On special occasions they would have mashed potatoes. He worked for construction, pouring concrete for a few years. He went to school to become a motorcycle mechanic. He has 3 children and also takes care of foster children. His wife worked until 1986 due to getting in a car accident and hurting her back. So now she’s not able to do any kind of work. They have 12 grandchildren right now. He is also retired.
