Description

Ault, Cheryl (Hill) Born 3/17/1946 Parents: Edward Erwin Hill & Hazel (Smith) Hill Paternal grandparents: Dennison Hill and Sadie (Powless) Hill Maternal grandparents: William Smith and Malvinea Molly (Powless) Smith She knew her great grandfather Cornelius Hill, but she didn’t know her great grandmother on the Hill side, or her great grandparents’ on the Smith side. She only knew her grandfather on the Smith side, because her grandmother died when her mother was young. Her grandfather William Smith worked for Hilbert Coal. He was born and raised in Oneida. He lived and worked most of his life in Oneida. When he got older he retired and moved to the Veteran’s Home in King’s. Then he wanted to come back to Oneida. He got a place at the Anna John Nursing Home. He could speak some Oneida language. I didn’t understand what they were talking about. Her grandfather Dennison Hill was a laborer, he worked on a lot of places. I think he worked on a Church. The grandparent’s on the Hill side could speak Oneida language. I didn’t understand a word. I don’t know if they had any schooling. I think my grandmother Sadie was a housekeeper. My father was in the Merchant Marines. His ship got torpedo the Red Cross wouldn’t help him that’s what her mother said. They got married. He was a jack of all trade. He could do almost anything. I think it was the late 50’s; when they got relocated to California. He works on an Air Force base as mechanic fixing Jets. They stayed less than a year there, he died there. My grandfather William Smith bought them back to Green Bay. My mother never told me where she went to school. My mother worked at a factory. She had 5 children. She could remember her grandparents Dennison and Sadie living on seminary Road I remember the loped hills and no electricity. And they lived on 54 that’s where they died. I went to school at Howell, Fort Howard, Washington Jr. High and East High. I graduated from Bay Port High School in 1965. I had to do house work in the summertime, would babysit, I worked in a restaurant and would go pick strawberries’. We went to the Episcopal Church. After school I got married to John Ault Jr. He spent three year’s in the service the year he got out we got married. He was from Howard, we had 4 children, and the oldest boy is dead. And my husband died in 1994 I’ve got 6 grandchildren. She got married, she did work out, started a family. She became a stay at home mom. Her husband was a truck driver over the road. After her kids go done with school, she went back to work as a factory worker. I worked in Green Bay Plastic, and then I went to Modern Plastic. From there I went to the Casino then to HRD, and now I’m at the Elder Services. Advice to the youth is finish their education and not to expect everything to be given to them, they have to work for what you get, they have to have respect
