Skenandore, Delores Marie (Doxtator) Born 04/09/1934 in Tomah, Wis. Parents: Isadore K. & Beatrice Zellars (Hill) Doxtator Maternal Grandparents: Hyson and Elizabeth (Metoxen) Hill Paternal Grandparents: Paul and Angela (King) Doxtator She only knew her grandparents on her mother side they live in Wisconsin Rapids, she uses to go and visit them once a year. Her grandpa worked in the cranberry marsh. She didn’t know if her grandpa spoke the Oneida language. But her grandma did. She didn’t if her grandparents went to school. Her grandpa died in 1943 then her grandma came stay with them in Green Bay, until her grandma and one of her uncles got a place in Oneida. Later on her mother died .She went to stay with her grandma because her dad was moving around a lot. She started school in Green Bay, from kindergarten to 8th grade. Then she went to Flandreau, South Dakota. For 1year. After she left from Flandreau, she went to Milwaukee, and stayed with her dad until she got married to Cornell J. Skenandore, in 1953. Her husband just gotten out of the service when they got married. They moved back to Oneida, they lived on Fish Creek rd. They have 2 children, one stepson and 4step-grandchildren. When the children started go to school all day she went to work at the Oneida Head Start School for 9 years. Her husband died when her children were in the 6th and 8th grade. Later on she got remarried to Clarence Skenandore; he worked at the Laden Company, in De Pere, as a machinist for 33years. She learned to make cornbread and corn soup. Her dad couldn’t speak the Oneida language but he could understand it. She didn’t know if her mother knew the language. Her advice to the youth is to stay in school and get a good education.Recording Type
