Archiquette, Emerson "Archie"
Born: 5/14/1925 Oneida, WI
Parents: Willard Archiquette and Cynthia Archiquette (Swamp)
The home stead is Seymour Wis. Parents are immigrants from New York. Was in the service during World War II. Farther was in the First War. Went to school at the local school, which was the Oneida Mission School. Typical Sunday was, go to Church, and don’t play cards or anything else. Home life was in adequate, no running water, had to haul water and electricity. Means of transportation was walking. Mother use to work at Gotti Hotel and Father had to go to the back door to get a beer. Wasn’t allowed to go into a Bar or anywhere it you were Indian. He and his siblings only went to Grammar School. Kids picked up the Oneida language from father. Mother spoke on English, no Indian.
Chores were very limited. Christmas time was special to them; they really never had extra money to spend. Everyone had to go to Church on Christmas. They’d get one small gift and a bag of candy. Hoyan was another special time. Going out to see how many donuts, oranges and apples you could get.
When people would get sick they had Dr. Rosa Monika Hill come to their house.
He was drafted in 1944 and went to Active duty in 1944. Was shipped out in 1945 and went to Europe. Don’t care to talk about things, which happened during the war. When he got back from the service, he went bar hopping. Then he went and looked for a job, about a month later he got a job. Use to play baseball, La Crosse, Golf and Dart Ball. No interest in Music, until 6 years ago. He now is involved in the Oneida Singers. He has his father’s Hymnal from the Oneida singer’s. I’m a member of the Oneida Nation Member Phase means, being a Oneida Indian of Wisconsin, according to Him.
Advise to the Youth, stay in school, get you’re’ education and listen to your parents, Think and Think again on what you are going to do, before you do it. Don’t do something that will end up putting you in prison. You can’t enjoy live in prison.Recording Type
