Schwamp, Emily (Christjohn) Born 07/14/1919 Parents: Thadeaus Zaccheus Christjohn and Lilly (Cornelius) Paternal Grandparents: David Christjohn and Liousia Denny Her mother passed away when she was 7 months old. Her father never remarried so she has no brothers or sisters. She was raised by her grandmother and lived on Old Seymour Road. Her grandmother stayed home. Both her grandparents spoke the Oneida language. Her grandma was a quilt maker. Emily went to school at St. Joseph’s School. They nuns there were really mean. They made kids noses bleed and other stuff. They’d even beat the kids up so her father took her out of that school and was put in the Lutheran School. She went to Mount Pleasant Michigan, boarding school. Then she went to Flandreau High School and graduated from there. Her family did all their shopping in Seymour at Wolf’s Grocery Store. They use to buy all the baskets that her grandmother made and they had all kinds of pretty quilts. Anna, Maril, and Amels Christjohn are like brothers and sisters to her. Her grandmother brought them up also. That was their grandmother also. Her grandma used to make the best ginger bread there was and use to make nice big donuts for Hooyan. Emily use to go to the movies for only 15 cents. Her husband drove trucks for Liecht’s. They got married in a Chapel then went to Chicago and her husband got a job as a brick layer. She was pregnant and moved to Milwaukee in 1947. She has 2 children but a daughter passed away so now her and her husband are taking care of their 4 grandchildren. Her husband has passed away now. She works for the Oneida Tribe teaching the Oneida Language in Milwaukee.
