I don’t remember any of grandparents on either side. I was born at Edwin Baird’s place on Freedom Road. We moved away from Oneida to Green Bay and I went to Tank School in the 1st grade. I had 5 brothers and 2 sisters. My mother went to school in Carlisle and my father went to Hampton Virginia. Dad played in the Oneida band he played the tuba. In Appleton he was in the 120th Artillery band. Dad worked at the paper mill in Appleton and mother worked at the Conway Hotel. My parents would talk Oneida when company would come over or around Christmas time. We never learn how to speak Oneida. My mother was good at crocheting, she tried to teach me to crochet, but I didn’t like to do that.
On Sundays we went to Sunday school at the Episcopal Church. When we got home, if mother didn’t have dinner ready we’d go for a ride. That’s when I learned how to drive, I was14 years old. I finish school in Appleton in 1932. Then I went to St. Louis by my sister. I when to work as a nurse in an operating room. I married a 38 Philippine man, and I was only 20. We had a baby girl, but she died in a fire in Chicago. Then I moved back to Milwaukee. Later on I got married to Andy Cornelius. He wanted to retire, but she didn’t want to because she had one more year left at Lutheran Hospital. When I came back to Oneida I got a job at foster grandparents.Recording Type
