Description

Kurowski, Gloria "Jeanie" Jean (Hill) Born 09/07/1942 Parents: Minnie (Summers) Hill and Emerson Hill Paternal grandparent: Abraham Hill Maternal grandparent: Richard Summers Parents never spoke the Oneida language. We always had a big garden; Mother did a lot of canning. At one time I remember having Pigs, Horses and Chickens. We didn’t have running water and no electricity until I was the age of 12 years old.Transpartion was a car, did grocery shopping in Seymour or DePere. Mother use to do the wash on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The girls all had chores to do. We went to the Oneida Methodist Church. A typical Sunday, was go to church, come home for a big Dinner. Christmas time was a lot of fun. Everyone got a small gift. New Years for Hoyahing was fun. Walk to Oneida and get lots of Donuts, Oranges and Apples. Went to school at Chicago Corners and then went to school a Seymour High School and Graduated from there. I work at the Oneida Health Center, been there for 23 years. Plans on Semi-retiring in 2007.Don’t have any bad feelings about the Casinos. I think the Tribe spends too much money. Recommends the youth, finish they’re education and learn more about the Government.
