Price, Hannah "Sweede" E. (Peters) Born 02/15/1921 in Shepley, WI Parents: Nicholas and Katherine (Webster) Peters Maternal grandparents: Louis and Phebe (Denny) Hill She was 2 years old when her grandparent’s on her father side passed away. Her grandparents loved on Old Seymour Rd. Her grandfather work around the house. They had a big garden. Her grandfather went to school at Carlisle. Her grandmother did not go to school. Her grandparents spoke the Oneida language. Her grandmother did a lot of canning. Her father work in the woods and he work for farmers. When she was growing up, they lived in Bowler, Tigerton, and Wittenberg. She started school in Wittenberg for 2 years. Then she came to Oneida and she went to the Lutheran School. Then she went to Oneida Mission School. Her chore’s was to keep the house clean, wash the clothes’, haul in water and wood. They did not have electricity or running water when someone got sick they had some home remedy. Her sister made baskets. When she was in the 7th grade, she got pull out of school, because her mother got sick. She had to take care of her. When her mother got better, she did not go back to school. She went to work in Sturgeon Bay shipyard. She was a welder and a torch woman. The Government paid her and her dad $25.00 a Month to learn how to be a welder. For about 3 years. After that, she stayed there and picked cherries, apples and work in factories. She got married to James Price on 1963. Then they moved to California. Her husband was from South Dakota. They had 1 Children, 3 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Her husband worked as Mechanic and in a Foundry. They lived in Oakland for 23 years. They moved back to Green Bay with in 2 years her husband died. Her advice to the youth is to stay in school.Recording Type
