Description

Jordan, Heleema (Cooper) Born 07/27/1926 Parents: Louise (John) Cooper and George Cooper Raised by: Guy and Neomi John She doesn’t remember her parents or her grandparents on either side. Her parents passed away when Heleema was really young. So, she was raised by Guy John and family. She went to school at Oneida School for eight years than went to school at Nicolet High for three years. When she turned eight-teen she went to Neenah and got a job there. She met Melvin Jordan and they got married on January 27, 1946 at the Church of Christ. They have six children together. Heleema’s husband was in the Army. When he got out that’s when they got married. In 1954 they went on a relocation program and moved to St. Louis. Together they lived in St. Louis and her husband than worked on M.R.K. Construction. Her husband then worked in a factory where they made air conditioners. He stayed working there until 1990 when he got sick. So, they moved back to Oneida in 1991 or 1992. Her husband had diabetes, kidney failure, and heart problems, and he was getting sicker and weaker every day. Then one day he was so sick that he ended passing away. He was buried in St. Louis at the Military Cemetery. She goes there every year for Memorial Day. Heleema now works part time at the IMAC Casino and has been there for 4 years now. She also attends the Elderly Programs that are offered. Now, Heleema has 13 great grandchildren and 16 grandchildren.
