Her grandmother Stowe worked as a cook at St. Norbert’s College. She lived with Janet’s family the last 2 years of her life. Her grandmother Johnson was just a home maker and smoked a corn cob pipe. When Janet was younger they lived on a farm near De Pere. She went to school at St. Joseph’s in De Pere. She went to school at Nichol until high school. She then went to Green Bay East High School and graduated from there. When the kids got older, teenagers, her mother took care of other kids. Janet married Jerry Herwald when she was 19 years old. She has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. She had owned her own business in interior decorating. She had it for a while but then closed it down. She did odd jobs for a while until one day her mother told her why don’t you go work for the tribe. So, she went and checked it out and now has been working for the tribe since 1989.
