Description

Stevens, Kathleen "Kate" Karen Born 04/06/1949 Parent: Phoebe John Foster parents: David Skenandore and Josephine Skenandore Grandmother: Celinda Stevens When Kate was just 15 months old she was removed from her mother’s home to a foster home. She had no running water or electricity. Her and her foster parents would make donuts to hand out on Hooyan because it was very popular back then. She remembers going to midnight mass on Christmas Eve. She went to school at Oneida Mission School. The nuns were the teachers there. Kate’s foster dad was a baseball player. In 1971-71 she worked at the Bingo Hall for the tribe at the Clinic Center. She never has and still won’t get into politics. She has been working for the tribe for 23 years. And in 1995 she became disabled. Her advice to the youth is be true to yourself, be thoughtful, and honest to others.
