Baird (Skenandore), Mildred Jean Born 9/14/1924, Rockford, Illinois Mather: Fanny (Silas) Skenandore Father: Willis Thomas Skenandore She doesn’t remember grandparent, they died before she was born. On her father side her grandpa is Thomas Skenandore, and her grandma is Mary Ann Skenandore. On her mother side her grandpa is Roger Silas he was a baseball player, and her grandma is Sophia Silas, she was a homemaker. Her mother went to Carlisle Indian School. Her father took a correspondence course. Both, her parents spoke Oneida, but she doesn’t speak it. She has six brother and sisters. They lived in Illinois they moved back to Oneida. Her Father was a musician, but never talked about how he was taught. Her mother did domestic work. She went to boarding school in Keshena for six year’s, a Catholic School in Oneida and De Pere High School. She washed dishes, cleaned up a little. Her mother taught her to cook. Her parent’s went to Episcopal Church. Her father worked at the dock’s in Green Bay. Her mother picked beans with other women and she picked Cherries once or twice. She doesn’t remember a lot of stuff about when she was growing up for Holiday’s. Her father was good to kids, but all business. Her mother liked to tell ghost stories, also enjoyed school and played basketball and band practice. She went to baseball games, dances, skating, sledding and bonfires. Her father had 3-4 children from his first marriage, she work in Milwaukee, but doesn’t remember after that. She has 11 children she adopted the middle daughter. She got married to Jesse Baird in 1947. We moved to Plymouth, Wisconsin, still live in Plymouth, but come back to Oneida for visits. She work’s off and on as nurse’s aide. She goes to church and Bible Study.Recording Type
