Hill, Norbert Seabrook, Jr.
Born 11/26/1946 in Detroit Michigan
Parents: Norbert Hill, Sr. and Alberta Johnson
Maternal grandmother: Cally Johnson
Paternal grandparents: Dr. Lillian Hill and Charles Allan Hill
His grandmother was a doctor in Oneida for almost 50 years. She came here with her husband Charles Hill as a farmer’s wife doctor. She originally was from Canada and Philadelphia. Sadly, she passed away in 1952.
During World War II Norbert went to school to become a nurse. His father played football while in school and was in the navy during the era of World War II. Norbert’s father helped organize the Indian Culture in Detroit. So, they lived in Warren Michigan. Only Indian families lived in his neighborhood. They had no running water. And when he came to Wisconsin he saw more discrimination than in Michigan. His father was always involved in other things tribal that hand it down to someone else. Norbert’s father liked being Vice Chairman than Chairman.
Norbert graduated in 1964 from High School than went on to college in Oshkosh and got a Bachelor’s degree in sociology. He taught at U.W.G.B. He worked there for 5 years than moved to Colorado and taught there in an American Indian Program. In 2006 he came back to Oneida. He was offered a job so he took it. His wife is a counselor in Ashwaubenon High School.
Norbert is still having trouble adjusting to the term of being an elder. He knows he’s getting older but he isn’t an elder.Recording Type
