Jourdan, Ronald Whitney
Born 12/05/1938 in Freedom Wisconsin
Parents: Henry Ephraim Jourdan and Mary "Mammie" (Powless) Jourdan
Paternal grandparents: Elsie (Christjohn) Jourdan and Ephraim Jourdan
Both of his parents only went up to the 4th grade. His mother went to school in Tomah and his father went to school in Wittenberg at boarding schools. When Ronald went to school he went to a little school on highway 54. His parents quit speaking the Oneida language at home. They only spoke English so their kids wouldn’t get teased at school any more. His father was a farmer all his life. And his mother spent all her time at home until the kids where in school then she cleaned houses and the movie theater. His mother taught him how to sew, clean his own socks, and cook. His mother knew a lot about homemade remedies for illness and stuff. Ronald was in the service and went to high school in Seymour and graduated from there. When he finished high school he got a job in Chicago as a Draftsman. He told his father he was going to graduate, get a job behind a desk and never work outside again. And that’s what he did. His wife’s name is Joan Mallory and her parents are Ben and Rosella Mallory. They are Hu Chong Indian. He remembers that in January 1961 there was a glare on the ice on the roads and he hit the gas pumps on County Trunk H by Maas’s Store. He has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. And he worked at the Indian Center in Chicago for 7 ½ years. He’s very close to his family, brothers and sisters that is.Recording Type
