Description

Laes, Ruth Elizabeth (Vander Bloomen) Born 5/3/1932 Parents: Arnold Vander Bloomen & Delia Oscar (Metoxen) Don’t remember any of the Grandparents. Mother was the Only Oneida. Ruth was 6 years old when her mother passed away. The children were put in the Guardian Angel School and then went to Foster parents. I got married in October 1951. Father passed away when she was 13 years old. He got crushed between two trucks. A Catholic Church ran the boarding School that she was in. Remembers having oatmeal every morning and fried potatoes every night. No electricity, had oil lamps for light, and no running water. There was a well, for drinking water and stuff. We went to both Methodist Church and Holy Apostles Church as they were growing up. I have 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren Uses the Oneida Health Center a lot. The Health Center has been very good to me. Appericates the Per Capita; helps pay my bill and stuff, when she doesn’t have the extra monies.
