Description

Skenandore, Warren Born 10/31/1923 Parents: Electa (Hill) & Anderson Skenandore He doesn’t remember anything of his grandparents on either side. Both of his parents spoke the Oneida language. He never learned the language though. His parents shopped at Hock’s in DePere. His father was a painter. Warren’s main chore was to chop fire wood and keep the wood box full. He doesn’t remember to many of his younger years. He remembers his first pair of shoe skates. His brother bought them for him on Christmas. That’s the only Christmas Warren remembers. He went to school at Nicolet School. He drove a cab when he first got out of high school then went into the service. He was in the Army and took basic training in Fort Benning, Georgia. One of the Nicolet sites that he saw was the Statue of Liberty. He got out of the service then went to college. He got married and had 3 children. He has 6 grandchildren. He wishes he could have finished college. His father use to talk about the Kanoas Claim. When Warren was growing up they use to swim in the Fox River in the summer. In the winter every Sunday there’d be people from 6-60 years old ice skating on the Fox River. He had a group of friends that he hung out with. They’d get into all kinds of mischief but never got into trouble by damaging any property or anything like that.
