Two lined pages of notebook paper with a large drawing on the top of the first page. The image is of Camp Benton (St. Louis.) Looking East. There is a building in the back with an American flag on top and rows of soldiers. In the foreground are five tents and six men on horses. The letter is addressed "April 6th 1862, Friend Ed!" It talks about the "boys" and how the weather is turning warmer and he fears more of them will get sick. He retells of talking to a man and the man said 3/4 of St. Louis are "Secesh if they dared to show it". It is signed "I remain as ever your friend J.W. Dick. To Edgar M. Dick Esq. Direct to Company A 2nd Regiment W.M.C. Camp Benton, St. Louis, Missouri".
