4th of July parade and horse show, circa 1930s - Orinda Historical Society archivesDescription
This silent black and white film documents one of Orinda’s earliest 4th of July parades (early 1930s). These parades are a valued Orinda tradition and record of an earlier era in the development of Contra Costa County. The parade takes place on Orinda Way in Orinda Village and crosses the 1920s bridge over San Pablo Creek. The Orinda Country Club golf course can be seen in the background of the parade. The second half of the film records a horse show taking place across from Orinda Union School (now the Orinda Community Center) in a large empty field that today includes Orinda's Safeway and RiteAid parking lots.
