This is a color video recording of an oral history interview with Wayne Forrest Miller, an Orinda resident and world-renowned photographer. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy where he was assigned to Edward Steichen's World War II Naval Aviation Photographic Unit and was among the first Western photographers to document the destruction at Hiroshima. He also freelanced for Life and worked as an associate curator for The Family of Man exhibition and accompanying book. The exhibition featured some of Miller’s photographs and was seen by more than 9 million visitors. He was active as a photographer from 1942 until 1975 and received many awards, among them the Guggenheim Fellowship. He is also the author of several books of photography including "The Way of Life of the Northern Negro" and "The World is Young". Miller was also active in environmentalism and forestry, which he discusses in the video.
